Weird title, I know, but here's why. Those of you who know us well, know that Sean struggles with eating. As part of his Asperger's, he has a severe sensory disorder as well which prevents him from being able to consume food normally. It also makes it difficult for him to play on playgrounds where he has to rely on his body to tell him where he is and what muscles he needs to engage in order to play on the equipment.
That being said, we have been taking him to Occupational and Speech Therapy in order to help him overcome these and other social challenges that he faces. Really, I think it's more of an education for me as his mother so that I'm better equipped to guide him through his tough times.
Anyway, I just had to share our latest victory! He has discovered how to engage his muscles on the playground, and although it gives me a heart attack every time, he is now climbing and exploring the highest points of the jungle gym. Actually, it would be great to see him get a few bumps and bruises now and then. Now before you go reporting me to child services, let me clarify. It's good to see him progressing and learning how much fun it is to PLAY.
Now for the food victory, hold your shorts people, this is big. He ate a mini ravioli... OK - doesn't sound like much, but for a four year old who refuses to eat more than 10 total foods, this is HUGE!
YEAH SEANIE!!!!
