Special Days

Yesterday was a special day for our family. September 3rd is the anniversary of the day that Sean was sealed to us after his adoption was finalized. I can't believe it has already been 4 years since that special day. We decided a few years ago that on the anniversary of the day that each of our children are sealed to us, we will celebrate what we call their "family birthday".

Sean chose to go to the Aquarium for his birthday, good thing we have an annual pass! So we went to his favorite place for lunch, Arctic Circle, then we went to "find Nemo" as he puts it. Afterward we went to the park and then to Blockbuster. He chose Over the Hedge and Pizza for dinner. We brought our perfect day to a close by having a pizza party picnic in our family room while watching his movie. All of that aside, the best part of our day was remembering how very blessed we are to have been able to adopt Sean! I treasure every day, every moment with him. It took me back to the time in my life when it became apparent that I would never be able to bear my own children, but having Sean takes a large measure of that pain away. He is such a wonderful spirit and we are so very lucky to have him.

This also brings up tender feelings for his birth mother. Lisa, my little sister, who gave of herself in the most unselfish way possible. As I sit here with tears streaming down my face I realize just how very much she has sacrificed for us and for her baby boy! We are forever connected by our love for each other and the love we share for Sean. How lucky we are to have each other!

What a great way to celebrate such a momentous occasion in our family! My hope is that throughout the years both Sean and Alex will remember these special family anniversaries and know just how very much they are loved and cherished!
